UMUBAJI DAYS

From May 12th to 14th 2023, we had a very special event at RTC. ProWOOD held the first Umubaji Days including the first Kivu Carpenters Competition. 120 competitors came from all districts of the western province for a chance to win the first prize of a very special workbench and three electric hand tools.

The workbench had been produced a week prior in a workshop at RTC with German carpenter and trainer Michael Sorenson. Over three rounds about 100 carpenters were eliminated with 21 of the best remaining for the final which took place a day later on Sunday.

For this day RTC opened its gates also for carpenters who were not competing. And whilst the finalists were hard at work the others enjoyed different workshops with topics ranging from construction with wood, a workshop tour and a presentation of the first price over CAD Drawing to a CNC presentation. Afterwards we celebrated different achievements of the last weeks.

The trainees from the recently finished MIC and CNC Operator trainings graduated and received their certificates and the first 51 places of the competition received prizes for their outstanding performances. All of this was documented by two social media experts from IB who also gave a workshop on marketing and photography to some teachers and local carpenters the week prior.
